Spread a little Magic & My Christmas Reading List

 

 

It’s that time of year again when we all get to switch off for a few days, spend time with our families and recharge the batteries. For me, I’m looking forward to what Santa Claus is bringing to my two kids. It’s the last year of Santa for my daughter Robin, as she is just about convincing herself this year that Santa is real, but thankfully Christian, my 6 year-old has a few years left where the magic is still there and the excitement is palpable. Robin, showing more insight that her years would suggest, said to me this morning, “Magic is just what you make it to be, isn’t it Dad?” And as I look back of the year, that sentiment rings true. In some ways, when you consider the challenges that we all faced during the year, the fact that we’ve continued to build the core of our business, and lay a solid foundation for 2010, is in fact magical – and it because we all decided to make it that way.

I’m proud of what we’ve achieved this year and to have such a fine group of people in the company of which I’m CEO, and our extended community of fine Independent Consultants, and Partners, and you the readership of the Sales 2.0 Network. Once more it falls to me to express my gratitude, and it’s heartfelt. Thank you all.

I wish everyone the best over the holidays, and as we say in Ireland, Nollaig Shona Duit, (NO-Lihg HO-nuh ghwich) which in Irish means Happy Christmas.

I hope you all have a great time, surrounded by your families and making a little magic of your own.

During the break I will be reading three books.

First, for pure enjoyment, I will be reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, the third in the wonderful Millenium trilogy by Steig Larson. This is a series of wonderfully innovative novels, about an unlikely Swedish heroine Lisbeth Salander. The style is totally journalistic, and the pace is ripping.

Then, in pursuit of further insight into the ever-evolving social media world, I’m looking forward to (1) Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation and Earn Trust by the ever insightful Chris Brogan and Julien Smith, and (2) The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web by Tamar Weinberg from O’Reilly Publishing. I’ve yet to be disappointed by anything that’s been released by Tim O’Reilly and I’m sure this will not be the exception.

If there’s one prediction I’m confident in making for 2010, it is the inexorable rise in Web 2.0 and, as a consequence, true Sales 2.0. Look back here early in the year for some announcements from The TAS Group in that regard.
